Check-in

Our changeover day is Friday.

Please arrive at 3:00pm. We like to meet and greet all our guests to show them around, explain how things work and have the fires lit if necessary. 

If you are delayed, please text or phone us well in advance so that we are not left waiting indefinitely but can make other arrangements.

  • Parking
    Park close to edge so as to allow an emergency vehicle and the rubbish truck to pass. You can park in National Trust car park on Cape in bad weather – just tell Annie or Peter you are staying at Wheal Call.

  • Front Door & Keys
    Put the front door “on the latch” when you are in the garden or bringing things down from the car so that the wind doesn’t blow the door closed and lock you out!

    The front door is old.  Please put key in lock and turn it when closing the door.  Please lock the security grill when you go out!

  • Kitchen
    Electric Radiator – very complicated, so now just turn it on and off at the plug.  Don’t forget to turn it off after use as it is more expensive and you pay for the electricity you use!

    Oven – Please wipe the oven each time after use to prevent spillages burning on, or use the aluminium foil provided to line and protect the oven. The cream-coloured  cloth is a heat-resistant oven cloth which works well unless you wet it!

    Little Hot Water Tank on Wall – not needed, don’t use it.


  • Rubbish
    Rubbish is collected by a commercial waste company every Friday between 7-8am.  Please place all the rubbish including food waste, bottles, recycling in the black bags provided and place them in the green wheelie bin in the courtyard.  It is collected from here. We are charged per bag, so please fill the bags without sorting the rubbish.  The commercial waste company sorts it.

  • Drying clothes
    There is a drying rack in the cupboard under the stairs.  Please do not place items on the night storage heater as this is a fire risk!!!

  • Wood burning Stoves
    The full instructions are in the folder.  Have the Fly Wheel and Slider in the open position to start. The fly wheel must be closed down once the wood burner is going (after 5 mins) to avoid over-heating!  The slider is used to control the amount of air into the stove. Check the magnetic Thermometer attached to the stove for optimum heating. The excess ash is to be put in the aluminium bucket and only emptied onto the garden when it is completely cold and it isn’t windy outside! It is good to leave a little ash in the tray for optimum operation of the stove.


  • Bathroom
    Please leave the switches outside the bathroom alone.  The hot water tank uses cheap electricity to heat the water overnight.  The tank serves 4 people, but if you think the water is getting cool, turn the Boost Dial inside the cupboard round to 60 for 60 minutes extra heating of the hot water tank.

    Please open the bathroom window during or after your shower to prevent mould growth. atmosphere.

  • Sitting Room
    Please use the De-humidifier to keep the cottage feeling dry.  Please empty it (when red light is on) carefully so as to avoid breaking the plastic lugs.

  • Outside cushions
    There are green cushions behind the sofa for use outside.  Please do not use sofa or bed throws outside.


Check-out

Please be ready to depart by 10:00am to give us enough time to clean and prepare for the next guests. If you need to leave earlier, please contact us at least 24 hours before yourdeparture to re-arrange your check-out.

  • Kitchen
    Please wash up and leave the kitchen as you found it at the end of your stay.

  • Rubbish

  • Bedlinen
    Please strip the beds of top sheet, top pillowcases and duvet covers and place them in the orange commercial linen bag provided along with bath towels, hand towels, tea towels and the oven cloth.
